Kidney Stone Management

According to the National Kidney Foundation, more than half a million people go to the emergency room for kidney stone problems each year.

At Desert Kidney Associates, we work with patient who are at increased risk for kidney stones, helping them to management diet and medications to lower their risk for developing kidney stones. Diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, chronic diarrhea, and kidney cysts increase the risk of stones.

For patients who have a history of kidney stones, or are at increased risk for kidney stones, it is important to drink plenty of water, and to avoid eating foods with excess salt or sugar. We work closely with patients to manage diet.

Treating kidney stones

Kidney stones can generally be treated by drinking a lot of water and encouraging the stone to pass. Surgical treatment be required in cases where a large stone is blocking the flow of urine and/or causing infection. We work closely with several expert urologists who can provide treatment if it is needed.
